Frequently Asked Questions / Troubleshooting

I had my lights installed early, but I don't want them on yet. What should I do?

If you chose to have your lights installed early to take advantage of the early installation discount, but do not want want the lights on yet, simply unplug the cords from the timers. We reccomend unplugging the cords from the timers, but leaving the timers plugged in so the time remains correct. When you are ready to have the lights come on, just plug the cords back into the timers. There may be more than 1 timer, depending on the amount of lights installed.

An entire section (or all) of the lights are not turning on. What do I do?

A section of lights not working is usually due to a circuit breaker or a GFCI being tripped. First check your circuit panel and make sure no circuits have been tripped. If a circuit has been tripped, reset it and see the section below about resetting the timer. If no circuits have been tripped check the GFCI on the outlet. The GFCI is the Ground Fault Circuit Interupt found on outside outlets of newer homes. If your outlet is a GFCI outlet it will have two buttons in the center. Press the "Reset" button and see if the lights come on. If they do come on after resetting the GFCI, see the section below on resetting the timer. Lights also may not come on if a cord has come unplugged.

If the tips above do not solve the problem, if you have any other questions, or if a section is continually tripping a circuit breaker or GFCI please do not hesitate to call us at 708.474.6800

How do I reset the timer?

Unless you tell us otherwise, we will set your lights to come on at approximately 3:30 pm (this is so all the lights come on by dusk. If there are more than 1 timer used, they won't come on at exactly the same time. Also remember the days get shorter as Christmas approaches) and off at about 12:00 midnight. To change the start and stop times, move the on (green) or off (red) plugs to the desired time on the timer wheel.

If you have recently lost power or had a circuit breaker or GFCI trip you only need to reset the current time. In the center of the timer wheel is an arrow pointing up with the current time on the timer wheel. Rotate the timer wheel until the arrow is point at the current time and the lights should come on and go off at the desired time.

When are the lights taken down?

We begin taking lights down the first full week after the new year. If you would like the lights up longer than that, please let us know, by telling the crew at the time of installation or by calling the office. We do our best to get everyone's lights down as quickly as possible after the new year. We obviously can't take down everyone's lights first, so if you don't wish to have your lights on anymore, please see the section below. It is our goal to have all lights removed by the second week of February, however weather plays a big part in us reaching this goal. Snow prevents us from being able to remove the lights from houses where it is necessary to get on the roofs. We will be out to remove the lights as soon as the weather permits if we are delayed by the snow.

Its after the holidays and I don't want my lights on anymore. What do I do?

If you no longer want the lights on before we are able to remove them, unplug the cords from the timers. we ask that you leave all timers and cords outside where they were installed, so that everything can be properly mapped and stored together.
